This episode of Conversations with Friends is with authors and writing group buddies Lauren Draper and Susan White.
Lauren (above) is a writer based in Melbourne. Her contemporary young adult novel, The Museum of Broken Things, was shortlisted in the 2020 Text Prize and will be published by Text Publishing in 2022. Her work has also appeared in Dumbo Feather and Kill Your Darlings, and her adult manuscript was longlisted in the 2019 Richell Prize. Lauren has worked in the publishing industry for the past five years and is currently the Marketing Manager at Hardie Grant Egmont.
Susan (above) is a doctor and a writer. As a clinical geneticist, Sue hunts for answers to undiagnosed genetic conditions in children – a kind of DNA-sleuth, minus the trench coat. Her first novel, Take the Shot, was published by Affirm Press in 2019 and was shortlisted for the Readings YA Book of the Year for 2020 and longlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia YA Book of the Year for 2020. Sue’s unpublished adult novel, Cut, was shortlisted for the Kill Your Darlings Unpublished Manuscript Award in 2017. Prior to that Sue has published in The Big Issue, Melbourne’s Child magazine and the Schools magazine.
The Conversations with Friends series is supported by the City of Melbourne COVID-19 Arts Grants.
